According to a report by Tvcnewsng, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State, Senator Ojang Onor, has formally entered the party’s presidential contest, purchasing his nomination form and declaring his intention to overhaul the troubled opposition party and return it to power at the federal level.
Onor’s entry adds fresh momentum to what is shaping up as a competitive internal race within the PDP, a party that has struggled to regain its footing since losing the presidency in 2015 and suffering successive electoral reverses that have left its national structure fractured and its influence diminished.
In a statement accompanying his declaration, the Cross River politician struck a restorative tone, framing his candidacy not merely as a personal ambition but as a rescue mission for an institution he described as central to Nigeria’s democratic development.
“The PDP must be repositioned,” Onor said. “We cannot continue on this path. The party has the structure, the history, and the people what it needs now is the right leadership to bring it all together.”
Onor, who previously contested the Cross River governorship under the PDP platform, is expected to lean on his legislative experience and his regional support base in the South-South geopolitical zone as he builds a national campaign.
His entry raises the political stakes inside the party at a time when internal cohesion remains a pressing concern, with influential figures demanding structural reforms before the PDP can credibly challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next general election.
Whether Onor can distinguish his vision from other aspirants will determine how seriously the party faithful receive his bid.
