Ekechukwu described the horrifying ambush and the attackers’ methods in an interview with Arise News on June 17, 2026. There have been new worries about insecurity in the South-East, and residents and commuters are demanding more security measures to protect them. Recounting the event, Ekechukwu said that the kidnappers appeared out of nowhere from both directions of the road, giving the victims little chance to flee. Her words were, “The people came from left and right from inside the bush and stopped us, and took us into the bush.”
In an instant, the assailants encircled the visitors and pushed them into the nearby bush, she added. The witness stated that the kidnappers quickly took charge and escorted their victims away from the road.
