According to a report by The Times of Israel on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran will not give up its right to enrich uranium, while expressing readiness to provide assurances that the country is not seeking to develop a nuclear weapon.
Pezeshkian made the remarks ahead of planned talks between Iranian and US negotiators in Switzerland, as discussions continue over Iran’s nuclear programme.
The Iranian president said Tehran understood that the United States’ demand was for Iran not to build an atomic bomb, adding that the country could provide written assurances regarding its intentions.
“What the United States demands is that Iran not build an atomic bomb. This is nothing new, and we can also state in writing that we have no intention of building a bomb,” Pezeshkian was quoted as saying by the president’s website.
However, he insisted that Iran’s right to uranium enrichment would remain a key issue in the discussions, saying Tehran would not abandon that position.
“However, we will not relinquish our right to enrichment, and the other side will have no choice but to accept this right,” he added.
The comments came as Iranian and American representatives prepared to meet in Switzerland for talks on Sunday.
The report also included an image of Pezeshkian displaying a memorandum of understanding signed with US President Donald Trump in Tehran, Iran, early on June 18, 2026. The photograph was credited to the Iranian Presidency Office via AP.
The talks between the Iranian and US negotiators are expected to focus on the issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme, with both sides preparing to discuss their positions in Switzerland.
