According to report by Vanguard News on Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started uploading results from polling units in the Ekiti State governorship election to its online Result Viewing Portal (IReV), providing the public with access to the outcomes as they are collated.
The upload process reportedly commenced at about 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, following concerns raised by political stakeholders and observers over the delay in making polling unit results available on the portal.
The gradual release of the figures is expected to enhance transparency and allow voters, political parties, and other interested parties to monitor the progress of the election.
Among the first results uploaded was that of Polling Unit 4, Ward 2, located in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area.
The result showed that Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victory over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide.
According to the figures displayed, Oyebanji polled 140 votes at the polling unit, while Bejide obtained 37 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded two votes in the same unit.
The polling unit is particularly significant because it is situated in Bejide’s ward, making the outcome one of the early indicators attracting attention from political observers and party supporters.
Despite the commencement of uploads, only a fraction of the election results had been reflected on the IReV portal as of the time the report was filed.
Available information indicated that roughly 20 per cent of polling unit results had been successfully uploaded.
The delayed pace of uploading had generated anxiety among some stakeholders, who stressed the importance of timely publication of results to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
Nevertheless, the activation of the portal and the ongoing upload exercise signaled INEC’s commitment to ensuring transparency and enabling Nigerians to follow the collation process in real time as the Ekiti governorship election progresses toward its conclusion.
