Adegoke Fayoade, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department and South-West operations, has assured Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, as reported by NIGERIAN TRIBUNE on Monday June 22 2026.
Speaking during a working visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on June 22, Fayoade said security agencies and government authorities are working to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. He expressed confidence that the abducted students and teachers would soon regain their freedom.
Fayoade also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force is recruiting 40,000 additional personnel nationwide to strengthen security and improve its operational capacity. He further revealed that officers are undergoing training in artificial intelligence and other technology-driven tools to enhance intelligence gathering and criminal investigations.
He said,
“The update is that all agencies, including government, are working very hard. I can assure you that within the shortest possible time, the children and their teachers will be free.”
