According to a report by GiveMeSport on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Manchester United are moving closer to completing the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson after arranging a crucial meeting aimed at finalising the transfer.
The Premier League club is reportedly confident that the deal will be concluded soon, with discussions between all parties already at an advanced stage. The transfer is expected to cost around £38 million, making the Brazilian one of United’s first major additions of the summer transfer window.
Reports indicate that Ederson has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford. While the clubs have reached an agreement in principle, a few final details still need to be settled before the move can be officially announced.
Manchester United’s recruitment team have reportedly tracked the midfielder for a long period and view him as an important addition to strengthen the squad. Former United midfielder Casemiro is also believed to have played a role in encouraging the club’s pursuit of his fellow Brazilian.
Ederson is currently away on international duty with Brazil. Although he was initially omitted from Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad, he later received a call-up following an injury to another player. United are hoping to complete all remaining paperwork while the tournament is ongoing, allowing the player to focus fully on international commitments before formally joining the club.
Once the Ederson deal is wrapped up, Manchester United are expected to continue their search for further midfield reinforcements. Reports suggest the club have also shown interest in West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, although his valuation of around £85 million could make negotiations more complicated.
Manager Michael Carrick is keen to add quality and depth to his squad ahead of next season, with United’s recruitment department continuing to work on multiple transfer targets as the club looks to build a stronger team capable of competing on several fronts.
