Pastor Toba Omole of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Omugo, has recounted the harrowing moments he narrowly escaped abduction when suspected bandits attacked the church during a worship service, leaving several congregants injured and others kidnapped.
Omole shared his experience during an interview on News Central TV, on Tuesday, 9 June, 2026, while describing the chaos that erupted when armed men invaded the church premises. The incident has heightened concerns over the security of worshippers and residents in communities facing repeated attacks by criminal groups.
According to the pastor, the attack occurred suddenly, forcing worshippers to flee in different directions in a desperate attempt to avoid being captured. He said the situation became so dangerous that he had no choice but to run for safety.
“I had to run for my life. I ran into the bush jumping the fence in order to escape. And other members sustained injury,” Omole said.
The cleric explained that the attackers created panic among members of the congregation as they stormed the church. In the confusion that followed, many worshippers scattered while trying to find safe routes away from the gunmen.
Omole said his escape involved running into a nearby bush and scaling a fence to avoid being caught. However, not everyone was as fortunate, as several church members reportedly suffered injuries during the attack. Others were abducted and taken away by the assailants.
The incident has left the church community traumatized, with families anxiously awaiting news about their loved ones who remain in captivity. Residents say the attack underscores the growing insecurity affecting rural communities and places of worship.
