Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is positioning itself to assume leadership at all levels of government in Nigeria.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during a welcoming event organised by the party, led by its National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. The event was featured in a video released by Symfoni TV on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Speaking on the resilience of the party, he said, “Quite frankly, it is a miracle that PRP has survived the onslaught that has been going on for the last three years.”
He added, “I have also said that so long as you bear the name of a human being, however high you are, a human being will sort you out. And that is what is going to happen.” Outlining the party’s ambitions, Baba-Ahmed stated, “PRP is getting set to produce the next federal government of Nigeria.”
He continued, “State governments of Nigeria, every layer, and the legislature, accordingly.” He further alleged that Nigeria had experienced systemic political control, stating, “We have borne the brunt of a group that captured the state of Nigeria so easily.”
On electoral processes, he warned against irregularities, saying, “I want to state now that even if the next election were to be declared at 3 a.m. or 2 a.m., it will be resisted.” Reflecting on the 2023 elections, he stated, “There were only about six to eight hours ahead of me in 2023 when that announcement was made at 4 a.m.”
Baba-Ahmed added, “I see PRP as a party that will not sit down and watch electoral victory so easily be taken away from the Nigerian people.” He continued, “I see PRP that will look this group of people in the face and tell them, you will be resisted.”
Referring to institutional authority, he said, “Face their authorities, the three main authorities that we know, which I don’t have to mention, tell them this is who we are.” He described electoral malpractice as unlawful, stating, “The act of declaring fake and wrong results is a criminal act.”
He added, “We as citizens, we as Democrats, we as candidates have taken it upon ourselves to stop constituted authorities from committing criminal acts.” Issuing specific warnings, Baba-Ahmed stated, “And so therefore, Professor Amupitan will not declare a fake result in 2027.” He continued, “IReV will not develop a glitch. Nobody will sneak to ICC and declare a fake winner of any election.”
He added, “No barrels will be pointed at Nigerians. No tear gas will be shot at Nigerians. No Nigerians will be followed and arrested because they are stopping criminals from continuing with criminality.” He concluded, “I have seen PRP for what it is.”
