
The Onwumere Family of Umuonuna, Umuopara Abba in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State has formally concluded the successful burial of their revered patriarch, Chief Lawrence Uzoatuegwu Onwumere (Chikwadoeze I of Abba).
Chief Onwumere, who was a beloved father, uncle, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was laid to rest on April 8, 2026, in a dignified and well-attended ceremony in his hometown of Abba.
The burial rites were led by his son, Sir (Dr) Chidi Onwumere, alongside members of the extended Onwumere family. The ceremony attracted a large gathering of friends, associates, in-laws, and well-wishers who came to pay their final respects and celebrate the life and legacy of the deceased.
The event was graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amarachi Iwuanyanwu; former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo (OZB); and the Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi.
Also in attendance were prominent community leaders such as the President General of Abba, Hon. Ikenna Anochie, and the traditional ruler of Abba, HRH Ndubueze Mmaduabuchukwu, Eze Omenma I of Abba.
The ceremony was widely described as peaceful, successful, and hitch-free, reflecting the respect and admiration Chief Onwumere commanded during his lifetime.
The Onwumere family expresses deep appreciation to all who attended, supported, and stood by them during this period of mourning. They also extend gratitude to the community, friends, and well-wishers whose presence and contributions ensured a befitting farewell for their late patriarch.
Chief Lawrence Uzoatuegwu Onwumere will be fondly remembered for his enduring legacy, commitment to family, and contributions to the growth and unity of the Abba community.
