Accoridng to a report by Football.london on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Moises Caicedo delivered a commanding performance for Ecuador in their goalless draw against Curacao at the 2026 World Cup. The Chelsea midfielder stood out in a match that left his country’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages hanging in the balance.
Ecuador went into the Group E fixture at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium needing a strong result after losing their opening game to Côte d’Ivoire. Caicedo rose to the occasion, controlling the flow of the game from midfield. He drove the team forward, created attacking opportunities, and broke up opposition play with consistent energy.
His passing statistics were exceptional. The 24-year-old completed 100 of 112 passes, the highest total ever recorded by an Ecuadorian player in a single World Cup match. He also created four chances, delivered five crosses, and regained possession ten times. Ecuador dominated the ball and unleashed 28 shots, yet they could not find a way past Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room, who produced a memorable display with 15 saves.
The draw means Ecuador must now defeat Germany in their final group game at the MetLife Stadium if they are to stand any realistic chance of progressing. Only the top two teams from each group advance automatically, along with the eight best third-placed sides overall.
After the match, Ecuador coach Sebastian Beccacece refused to accept that the campaign was over. He told reporters, “Life has taught me you have to always continue to work, always learn, and challenges can become opportunities. It is normal now to feel this pain, this disappointment, but this is not over yet. We have 100 minutes ahead of us, and we’re going to be there in a sound way to try to reach our goals. The team deserved more than they got.”
