According to Nivo News, the Senate of the League of Imams in Osogbo has called on all political parties in Osun State to zone their 2026 governorship tickets to Osogbo, the state capital
In a statement released over the weekend, the group known as Alasaro of Osogbo, through its President, Sheikh Ilyas Afolabi Alawe, declared that indigenes of Osogbo are united in their demand for the governorship position, insisting that it is now Osogbo’s turn to produce the next Governor of Osun State.
Sheikh Alawe emphasized that Osogbo, a historic town in the old Western Nigeria and formerly part of the old Oyo State, has long played a crucial role in shaping the state’s political direction. However, despite its prominence and contributions, no son or daughter of Osogbo has ever governed the state since its creation 34 years ago.
He further stated that community elders, leaders, and stakeholders are resolute in ensuring that this narrative changes in the 2026 election. “We can start with the forthcoming governorship election by rallying behind our capable sons and daughters from various political parties who are aspiring for the seat,” Alawe noted.
Also lending his support, the Chairman of the Osogbo Elders Council, Prince Adeleke Ibiloye, endorsed the call for zoning the governorship to Osogbo. He explained that the people of Osogbo have always supported candidates from other towns in past elections and that it is now fair for others to reciprocate the same goodwill.
“We have, over the years, stood by others in their political pursuits. It is now our turn to produce the next governor of Osun in 2026, and we trust that those we once supported will stand with us this time,” Prince Ibiloye added.
