Primate Elijah Ayodele, head of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a stern warning about potential political unrest in Nigeria following the next general elections. Speaking during a live session on Facebook, he drew comparisons between Nigeria’s political landscape and the ongoing electoral disputes in Cameroon, where opposition groups are clashing with authorities.
Ayodele cautioned that unless preventive measures are put in place, Nigeria could face a similar scenario. “What is unfolding in Cameroon is a sign of what might happen here,” he said, highlighting the risk of preemptive claims of victory by opposition parties.
“The opposition may declare themselves winners even before official results are announced,” the cleric warned, adding that such actions could spark widespread unrest if not properly managed.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other political leaders to prioritize transparency, fairness, and open communication to prevent any escalation of tension. According to Ayodele, proactive steps by the authorities could be crucial in safeguarding peace during the electoral process.
