The Integrity Youth Alliance has faulted a recent report by Sahara Reporters alleging that the Inspector-General of Police transferred officers linked to a former head of the Police Monitoring Unit, CP Akin Fakorede, describing the publication as inaccurate and sensational.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Danjuma Lamido, the group said the report titled “IGP Disu Transfers Officers Linked To Ex-Police Monitoring Unit Head, Fakorede” misrepresents routine administrative processes within the Nigeria Police Force.
The Alliance clarified that the Police Monitoring Unit is not owned by any individual officer, noting that CP Fakorede only served in the unit as part of his official duties. It added that several officers held the position before him and that another officer has since assumed the role following his redeployment, in line with standard procedures.
According to the statement, recent transfers approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, are routine and consistent with global policing practices. It emphasized that personnel of the police force are subject to redeployment for operational efficiency and do not serve under any individual officer.
The group further described as “baseless” any suggestion that the transfers were targeted at CP Fakorede, stressing that his service record remains unblemished.
It also recalled an earlier report by Sahara Reporters published on March 13, 2026, which alleged that Fakorede had been placed on mandatory leave and was to resume as Commissioner of Police in charge of Research, stating that the claim lacked credibility.
The Integrity Youth Alliance urged the media platform to uphold professionalism and accuracy in its reporting, noting the critical role of the press in shaping public perception on issues concerning national institutions.
